In 1934, Robert Smet started the company and focused on building custom homes. His son, Daniel Smet, recognized the need for quality commercial and industrial buildings and expanded the company in that direction in the early 1980’s. He also realized the value of leased properties and warehouses, so he sold the construction portion of the company in 1994 to his sons, Scott and Chad, who currently own and operate Smet Construction Services today.
