Advanced Disposal Presented with LEED Certification Award!

The LEED Certification Award was recently awarded to Advanced Disposal- Green Bay for their construction project adhering to the sustainable design and construction standards by the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED certification program is administered by the U.S. Green Building Institute and certification is applied upon project completion. The LEED acronym stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Smet Construction Services presented the award to Brian Hopkins, Vice President, of Advanced who said: “We are proud to receive this award. It is our goal to be as environment-friendly as we can. It was the right way to build this building, to receive LEED certification.”
This LEED project was 8,500 SF and focused on renovation of 5,677 SF of office space and providing a one story addition of 2,823 SF to an existing building. The facility provides truck repair and office space for the disposal company. The project attributes diverted over 50% of construction waste from landfills while reducing potable water usage by 22%. The project achieved a reduced cost of energy while total energy savings exceeded 20%.  While the design scope changed as the project went along, the project was delivered on budget.
Sarah Reese, LEED AP ID+C with Smet Construction Services Corp. oversaw the LEED process and was responsible for obtaining the LEED certification on behalf of our customer. Sarah said, “Being a company that provides solid waste disposal services to area municipalities and businesses, it was important to achieve LEED status for Advanced Disposal.”  Sarah also said, “To work with an organization that works in the environment field, it is an accomplishment and important for our client to achieve LEED certification. It is important to be sensitive to the environment especially if you are in the disposal business. ”
Located on 7 acres in an industrial park in the city of De Pere, Advanced Disposal provides disposal of solid waste, hazardous waste and industrial cleaning services in Northeast Wisconsin.
Smet strives to use sustainable design practices and has the in-house ability to pursue LEED certification. If you have a project where LEED certification is important, contact us and ask us how we can help you achieve your needs.
