Last December, with frightful weather outside and a local high school band playing instruments that froze to their lips, ceremonial ground was broken to commemorate the hard work everyone did to get a new iconic residential project underway in downtown Green Bay. It was important to begin the project before the year ended as funding and other projects were beginning to change the project’s timetable. Now with the winter weather out of the way and with the design ready to go, real ground was broken this morning.
Smet project site manager, Carl Shefchik, said, “We’re working with some great people and with good weather projected all week, we should be good in making some real progress.”
The 76-unit apartment project is the first residential project in downtown Green Bay in over 20 years. It is located on an iconic corner and will have one and two bedroom apartments, many facing the Fox River with water views, and others with urban views facing the new $45 million Schreiber building and the new KI Convention Center. The project has a mix of modern architecture with historical overtures in containing several colors of brick, metal detailing on balconies, and architectural stone accents. The first floor will contain 7,000 square feet of retail space along with greenery common area facing the Fox River.
The development’s ownership group is led by developer Terrence Wall with Smet Construction handling the construction. Wall has a track record of developing several quality residential developments throughout the state. This project is sure to follow suit with its stunning views and its proximity in the heart of downtown activity.
Smet’s Shefchik continued, “I’m thrilled to be on this project and it will be exciting once you can actually see the building going up.”
The project has an anticipated completion date of March 2015.
