Orde Groundbraking

Up-Front Work Helps Orde Sign and Graphics to Expand!

Orde Sign & Graphics Company which for over 70 years has been working on signs for other building projects has undertaken a building project of its own. Orde broke ground on its new facility on September 30, 2013. The new building on Flight-Way Road in Hobart marks the company’s second expansion in Northeast Wisconsin. Smet Construction Services serves as the construction management firm for the new facility.
According to Orde’s President Jane Bertottie, “This process was very frustrating and we almost gave up but instead we chose to step up! We had a great team of people putting this together.”  Speaking of Smet’s Greg Runnoe, who led the project, Bertottie continued, “Greg treated this project as if it were his own business. He did a beautiful job!”  Runnoe presented a commemorative ground-breaking shovel to Orde’s Vice President, Kevin Flatley, and said, “Sometimes, by the time we break ground, the project is almost over.”
Runnoe was quick to give all the credit to the owners but he was instrumental in keeping the project on track and moving forward. This particular project resulted in extensive front- end work. Runnoe presented several sites for consideration and assisted the owners in determining their needs before the final site in Hobart was selected. Smet also worked with the village of Hobart in the permitting, the utility set ups and TIF financing stages. The up-front work saved the owner’s time and allowed them to operate their business while Smet did what it does best, helping owners to get their building projects off the ground.
Andrew Vickers, Hobart’s Village Administrator, said “This is the third project we’ve worked on with Smet in as many years and we’re happy to have you at the development table. You know how to do a project right.”
The new facility will allow Orde to combine four locations under one roof to improve cost-effectiveness and operating processes with a more efficient layout. The building will contain painting, neon, and metal fabrication areas.
